A Hailstorm and National Grassland in Kansas
Our first night of camping was preceded by an amazing hailstorm. We were standing in the Ranger's office of the 116,000 acre Cimarron National Grassland, Elkhart, Kansas when the sky broke loose. Larger hail than I have ever seen filled the streets and gave Dora's roof a good working over. The 2nd photo above shows the street filled with hail. The 3rd photo needs no explanation.
We covered the broken roof vents and headed off to the Grassland. The top photo shows Dora happily set up and open for business. The Cimarron National Grassland is one of 17 managed by the U.S, Forest Service. It is wonderfully still here, with no unnatural sounds or lights.
Camping here costs $7.00/night, with water and vault toilets provided. With my Senior Golden Eagle Pass, we get 1/2 price! We'll stay 2 nights and enjoy a day of rest and nature tomorrow.
Peace and Blessings,
Ron
