Down Time in the Cimarron Grassland

We did indeed spend a quiet day inside Dora today. It's windy and cold outside. About a 1/2 inch of snow on the ground just now and wind gusts are up to 35 mph.

I located new covers for the roof vents at Camping World in Albuquerque. So, we'll be taking a more Northern route to Anza Borrego State Park. We'd love to go through Tucson again, so may drop down south after repairing the roof vents.

After locating roof vent covers and filing a claim with State Farm, I went to work trying to figure out why our solar system voltage inverter was indicating a short, and turning itself off.  I made some progress by disconnecting the inverter from the trailer's internal 110 volt wiring system. That removed the short fault and has allowed me to use the two 20 amp outlets on the front of the inverter. We now have two outlet strips plugged into the inverter: 1 for Mari's computer and charging needs and 1 for me (same needs). I'll try to figure out the location of the short circuit when we're in warmer weather.

For a brief period today out solar panels found enough sunlight to add some charge back into our batteries. What they didn't supply, our car's generator was more than happy to oblige.

Its not too bad here "roughing" it in the Cimarron National Grasslands. There are no birds to be seen. They are all hunkered down out of the wind. We are hunkered down inside Dora with the furnace running nearly full time. I'm going to go out after this and check the propane tanks.  : ) Would not want to, but might need to make a trip into town for more LP.

I've been reading about the Grassland. This County, Morton, experienced the worst of the dust bowl devastation. Over 80% of the land was ruined by farming practices that the land could not sustain. The government stepped in to purchase the worst of the land and began restoration practices. By 1939 107,000 acres in Morton county, Kansas, alone. With the grasses restored, the birds and Prairie Dogs have come back.

Time to check that LP.

All the best,

Ron and Mari
