Day 1 of Ron and Mari's Big Adventure: November12, 2015
Dora ready for adventure!
Mari:
Got 5 loaves of Pumpkin Bread baked. Trailer and car packed to capacity; house tidied up. Dishes washed! Etcetera, etcetera. Pulled out of South Campbell St. at 2:15 PM.
It was a beautiful, if somewhat cool, and windy, day. We are thankful for clear weather for the final packing & loading. Ron took the 1st leg & drove to Des Moines, where we stopped for the night.
Ron:
So hard packing! Glad I had lots of time!
Improvements to Dora: 1. Installed a 2" "Lift Kit". Makes Dora higher for those rough roads we hope to travel to remote camping spots. 2. New 10-Ply tires. 3. Installed a 2" receiver, bolted to the frame, on the back of Dora for a Thule bike rack. 4. Bought replacement bulbs. efficiency LED bulbs for brighter indoor lighting. Who knew we had to choose the color spectrum? Warm, soft or bright.
Headed straight west into a 30 mph wind, with 2 kayaks on top of the car, getting 11.7 mpg. Hope that improves.
